    Hi Bharat,

    Thanks for your question.

Your concern is valid but you didn’t indicate what you career interest is. Assuming your aim is to have good career growth, we would recommend going for IT over operations management.

Another option you can probably explore is data analytics.

    Reason for the choice:

    1. Operations management is really broad For e.g. you’ll learn about supply chain and other such concepts which are irrelevant for a SAP consultant.
    2. IT/Data Analytics is a growing field, with plenty of jobs and acceptance.

Even though we are a distance MBA website, we would also recommend that you can potentially look at skipping distance MBA altogether. Instead, you can go for courses in data analytics or cloud. If you are technically sound, these would help your career way more than distance MBA every would.

Hope this helps and apologies for the late reply.

In some universities, you need to qualify for an entrance exam but there are many universities in which you can enroll directly without an entrance test.

As earlier said every university has different eligibility criteria but having a bachelor’s/ graduation degree from a recognized institution is a foremost requirement to apply for a distance MBA.

Apart from the entrance exam which is taken up by universities like IGNOU, SMU, Symbiosis, and many more various institutes also accept the scores of CAT/MAT/XAT.

But if you do not want to give an entrance test here is the list of top institutions that admit students directly:

    1. ICFAI distance learning
    2. Lovely Professional University
    3. Jiwaji University
    4. Vidyasagar University
    5. Assam Down Town University
    6. University of Kerala
    7. Dr. C.V Raman University
    8. Assam Don Bosco Distance MBA

The detailed information of all the above-mentioned universities like admission process, fee details, eligibility criteria is available on this link.

    Hey Nandita,

    Thank you for your question.

    The bad news:

To keep things real – it would be tough. And that has nothing to do with Don Bosco, but with Online and Distance MBA degree in general.

In terms of importance, an online/distance MBA from college X will always be lower in priority compared to regular MBA from the same college.

    The good news:

However, we have noticed that quite a few colleges do not specify the distinction on their degree certificate. Hence, it all boils down to your ability in the end, specifically for non campus placement. So the main disadvantage you have is – no campus placement, no network of colleagues.

Beyond this, it’s your raw ability vs others. Make it count 🙂

The best distance MBA in India is IGNOU. Here’s why?
First, I know that pinpointing one institution out of the hundreds of institutions in India is rather presumptuous. The challenge is not in finding an institution from which to pursue a distance MBA [1]. On the contrary, the daunting task is deciding what school to attend.

In recent days, working professionals and ambitious fresh graduates can get distance MBAs in any field they please. However, all MBAs are not created equal. The best MBA boils down to the reputation of the institution you obtain it from. So, what considerations should you have in mind when evaluating a school’s reputation?

The most important factor is accreditation. Look for institutions accredited by boards [2] such as UGC, AICTE etc. The benefit of accreditation is that it gives you peace of mind with the knowledge that whatever program you are pursuing meets the highest academic standards. The last thing you want is to invest in an MBA that has questionable credibility.

Second, on your list of considerations should be opportunities to specialize. Specialization equips you with analytical skills to tackle real-world business scenarios and apply the latest technology to find solutions for your projects. After all, what is the point of a postgraduate education if not to transform yourself into an authority in a specialized area?

Another critical consideration is the institution’s flexibility to accommodate your schedule. More often than not, you will be juggling between pursuing your MBA and your commitments to work, family, etc. The institution you choose has to be able to offer support in that regard as well as quality and versatility.

With that out said, you’re probably asking me, did you pick IGNOU [3[ because it meets all the above requirements? The answer to that is a resounding yes. My point here is not necessarily to recommend a single institution, conversely, I expect that I have outlined a clear roadmap that you can rely on when making your choice.

Here are some colleges which you might want to look at.

Yes, ICFAI is approved by UGC according to Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956 [1]. What’s more, the institution has distinguished itself as one of the best distance MBA providers in India. Notably, it also has approvals from regulatory bodies such as NCTE, ACU, and AI. ICFAI’s MBA programs typically take 2 to 3 years.

The university was established in 2004 following the Tripura Act 8 of 2004 and is part of the ICFAI group franchise. They offer professional courses in finance, health, environmental science, and agricultural science. ICFAI’s programs are ideal for you if you’re looking to better yourself intellectually or improve your profile to position yourself for a promotion [2].

The admission procedure is quite straightforward and involves feeling the requisite forms and attaching the required certificates either online or offline. Enrollment is based on merit and can be done all year round during January, April, July, and October. Examinations are mostly computer-based and students are at liberty to choose their preferred schedules.

The institution promotes student self-study by providing course resources online and offline. Assessments are done every quarter and are scheduled for the convenience of working professionals [3]. Although the institution does not offer placement assistance post completion of their programs, ICFAI’s respected brand can be sufficient in landing a job.

Yes. A distance MBA from SMU is considered valuable by government and private employers. SMU’s distance MBAs are recognized by regulators such as UGC and DEB. Credibility goes a long way in as far value is concerned and SMU has got plenty. The institution was established in 1995 following an agreement between the Manipal Pai Foundation and the Sikkim Government [1].

SMU has a wide variety of postgraduate programs tailored to meet the diverse needs of fresh graduates and seasoned professionals alike [2]. SMU MBA learners benefit from soft and technical skills aimed at turning them into valuable assets to the business world. The administration strives to tailor the programs to keep up with employer expectations.

To be eligible for admission, you must have completed a minimum of 3 years of undergraduate studies. Applicants also have to pass an aptitude test conducted by the university although candidates who have scored above 40% in any international MBA entrance exam (at least 12 months before the date of application) are exempted.

A distance MBA program at SMU will set you back Rs. 21,250/- in fees per semester. In return, learners benefit from the institution’s curated body of knowledge and technology that is tailored to meet industry demands [3]. More importantly, SMU has strategic partnerships with Multinational companies to assist with placements upon completion of your studies.
